Welcome to Chard Rugby Club

Founded in 1876, Chard Rugby Football Club has been at the heart of the local community for nearly 150 years. Proudly based in Chard, Somerset, the club has a rich heritage built on teamwork, sportsmanship, and a passion for the game.

From its early beginnings on local farmland to today’s thriving grounds at Essex Close, Chard RFC continues to grow from strength to strength — fielding senior men’s, women’s, and youth sides, along with a flourishing mini and junior section that nurtures the next generation of players.

Our famous red, black, and yellow colours are recognised across the South West, representing not just the club but the spirit of our town — determined, friendly, and proud.

Whether it’s a Saturday afternoon at the club, a junior training session on a Sunday, or one of our many community events and fundraisers, Chard RFC is more than just rugby. It’s a family — a place where lifelong friendships are made both on and off the pitch.

With our 150th anniversary fast approaching in 2026, we look forward to celebrating our history while driving forward into a new era of development, opportunity, and community spirit.
