Chard too strong for Somerton
Chard traveled to Somerton with a team with an average age of 19 if you exclude the veteran props Brian Sugar and Richard Lovelock.
Both teams had a scrappy start with nether getting any advantage from the others poor passing and infringements. It wasn't until 10 minutes had passed Skipper Billy Brookes crossed over the line to open the scoring with Cam Helliar adding the extras.
The errors continued and the spectators had to wait another 20 minutes for a good passage of play but this time from the home side with two quick scores to go ahead 12-7.
Chard regrouped and with half time aproching they raised the tempo and joe mainwaring scored a converted try to end the half

Chard came out for the second half looking a different team with slick passing and good set plays and it wasn't long before Billy Vernon crossed for an unconverted try and three minutes later Ben Stead crossed and this time Cam Helliar was on target once again.
Chard's Polish U20s international Emil Szydelko was the next on the score sheet with two trys within a few minutes both converted by Helliar.
Ben Stead ran through the opposition defence to score his second of the day to make it 12-45
From the restart the hosts pack stepped up a gear and for a period they were bossing Chard and deserved their 3rd try of the day for effort alone.
Szydelko added his third of the day with a fantastic run from his own 22 skipping a number of tackles on route to make it 17-52 not to be out done Vernon scored a fantastic individual try again Converted by the reliable Helliar to finish the match 17-59.
Duncan Nicholls chose Ross Colenso as Man of the match for his superb play but it could of gone to any of the players on the day.
